The Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 of 52

The Book of Prophet Jeremiah

 Chapter 3

¹ If a man divorces his wife and she goes from him and becomes another man's wife, will he return to her? Would not such a land be greatly polluted? You have played the whore with many lovers; and would you return to me? says the LORD.

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verse 1)

Oh God, my beloved Father, I have not always been faithful to You, by using my time in activities that were not always according to Your will such as preferring to play my online game 'Need for Speed' instead of using that time in prayer. However, You showed me that these material alienations or lovers where gradually interfering in our relationship and You showed me that You are my true love and that I am to place You before everything and before any other activity Amen.

² Look up to the bare heights and see! Where have you not been lain with? By the waysides, you have sat waiting for lovers, like a nomad in the wilderness. You have polluted the land with your whoring and wickedness.

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verse 2)

Oh God, my beloved Father, it is time for us to take full responsibility of our sinful actions and repent from them, for in all our different ways we are all sinners in need of repentance. Amen.

³ Therefore the showers have been witheld, and the spring rain has not come; yet you have the forehead of a whore you refuse to be ashamed.

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verse 3)

Oh God my beloved Father, You know how stubborn we can be, I do not blame You for the consequences that we experience due to our own sinful acts. I pray on behalf of the innocent people, for it is not fair that both the innocent and the guilty suffer the same consequences especially those who are victims of the greed of others Amen.

⁴ Have you not just called to me, "My Father, you are the friend of my youth-⁵ will he be angry forever, will he be indignant to the end?" This is how you have spoken, but you have done all the evil that you could.

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verses 4 to 5)

Many times oh God my Father we reason from a human perspective and address You as we address ourselves, however, Your love for us is unimaginable so much that we cannot even understand it. Your behaviour towards me is much better than mine towards You my God and Father, indeed Your ways are not my ways but You still love me Amen.

⁶ The LORD said to me in the days of King Josiah: Have you seen what she did, the faithless one, Israel, how she went up on every high hill and under every green tree, and played the whore there?

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verse 6)

Oh God my Father, it seems that as humans we are required by You to observe and be aware of what happens in our environment and life situations. I pray that we be more aware and sensitive to others and their needs and even of ourselves and of our needs Amen.

⁷ And I thought, "After she has done all this she will return to me" but she did not return, and her false sister Judah saw it. ⁸ She saw that for all the adulteries of that faithless one, Israel I had sent her away with a decree of divorce; yet her false sister Judah did not fear, but she too went and played the whore.

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verses 7 to 8)

Oh God, my beloved Father, I had lived 16 years with the hope that the situation of my marriage would improve, however instead of improving it continued to degrade until I had to apply for a separation. I pray that You do not condemn me for such an act Amen.

⁹ Because she took her whoredom so lightly. she polluted the land, committing adultery with stone and tree.

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verse 9)

Due to the fact that my wife took her online friends so seriously and intimately, they became an integral part of her life and that of my 10-year-old daughter, and I found myself having to literally compete between three people, my nephew and two others. This is a situation that I could take no longer. Amen.

¹⁰ Yet for all this her false sister Judah did not return to me with her hole heart, but only in pretense, says the LORD.

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verse 10)

Oh God my Father kindly forgive us for when we were not always totally honest with You, even though we are aware that You know us more than we know ourselves Amen.

¹¹ Then the LORD said to me; Faithless Israel has shown herself less guilty than false Judah.

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verse 11)

Oh God my Father, the new and modern people of God of the New Testament which I happen to be a part of as a member of the human race, are acting in more negative ways than the old testament people of God. People living during these times were lacking in both science and technology however they were closer in their relationship with You.

Today when considering scientific and economic progress we are still lacking in both quality and quantity as people who really and truly believe in You. Sadly enough we have gradually degenerated to becoming our own gods, acting according to our own logic feelings, mood and appetites, which do not always correspond with what is right and acceptable before You Amen. God have mercy Amen.

¹² Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say; Return, faithless Israel, says the LORD, I will not look on you in anger, for I am merciful says the LORD;  I will not be angry forever.

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verse 12)

Oh, brothers and sisters if any of us cannot forgive ourselves if we still guilty about something that happened in the past or recent present rest assured that God will forgive you and will not be mad or angry at you or me. Amen.

¹³ Only acknowledge your guilt, that you have rebelled against the LORD your God, and scattered your favors among strangers under every green tree, and have not obeyed my voice says the LORD.

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verse 13)

Oh God, my Father, with great responsibility I acknowledge the mistakes that I did in my life particularly in my marriage that may have had fuelled the flame leading to the separation which became inevitable. At times I feel both sad and sorry especially when considering the financial and emotional consequences that I am enduring. However, my greatest consolation is in the fact that You are in control of the direction of my life in You I place my trust my present and future is in You hands Amen. Thank You, Jesus.

¹⁴ Return, O faithless children, says the LORD, for I am your master; I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion.

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verse 14)

Oh God my Father in 2019 You are still calling us to repentance. You are our God and Father and like You, there is no other. I pray that You use me in helping others return back to You. I offer You the strengths and weaknesses that You have given me. I am at Your disposal take my life and use it as You wish Amen.

¹⁵ I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verse 15)

Oh God, my Father, I thank You for the Roman Catholic Church and other sources such as pastors like Joel Osteen among others by which You choose to reveal Your love for and to me Amen.

¹⁶ And when you have multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, says the LORD, they shall no longer say, "The ark of the covenant of the LORD" It shall not come to mind, or be remembered, or missed; nor shall another be made.

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verse 16)

Oh God, my Father You know us so well more than we know ourselves. You know that we seek You most when we are in pain and suffering but this is not fair. I pray that You heal us from our selfish and sinful selves Amen.

¹⁷ At that time Jerusalem shall be called the throne of the LORD, and all nations shall gather to it, to the presence of the LORD in Jerusalem, and they shall no longer stubbornly follow their own evil will. ¹⁸ In those days the house of Judah shall join the house of Israel, and together they shall come from the land of the north to the land that I gave your ancestors for a heritage.

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verses 17 to 18)

Oh God, my Father in a way this prophecy has already been fulfilled, for the promised land in part has already been given to Your people. I pray that in time Your Will may continue to be done and it will be given back to them in full as full owners. Amen. As Your people and as Your Church we are also Your heritage and one day we will also turn from our evil ways and be worthy of being called Your People and Your heritage Amen.

¹⁹ I thought how I would set you among my children, and give you a pleasant land, the most beautiful heritage of all the nations. And I thought you would call me, My Father, and would not turn from following me. ²⁰ Instead, as a faithless wife leaves her husband, so you have been faithless to me, O house of Israel, says the LORD.

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verses 19 to 20)

Oh God, my Father, kindly forgive me for many times I have been unfaithful to You and have turned from Your ways Amen.

²¹ A voice on the bare heights is heard, the plaintive weeping of Israel's children, because they have perverted their way, they have forgotten the LORD their God: ²² Return, O faithless children I will heal your faithlessness. "Here we come to you; for you are the LORD our God

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verses 21 to 22)

Turn around and face God oh brothers and sisters who may have become entangled in the ways of the LORD. Many people are praying on your behalf. A mother prays in the emergency room for her son who has just committed an overdose, another one who has been involved in a serious car accident to over drinking and excessive driving. God is listening to our prayers even though we blame Him for our mishaps. He is ready to forgive us. Amen.

²³ Truly the hills are a delusion, the orgies on the mountains. Truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel.

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verse 23)

Oh, brothers and sisters, sexual acts of the flesh give us a few seconds of pleasure and alot of mins of displeasure. It is best to invest in what gives us eternal satisfaction Amen. This satisfaction is one that only God can give Amen.

²⁴ "But from our youth the shameful thing has devoured all for which our ancestors had labored, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters. ²⁵ Let us lie down in our shame, and let our dishonor cover us; for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our ancestors, from our youth even to this day; and we have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God."

(Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapter 3 verse 24 to 25)

Oh God my Father, the everlasting disease of sin and its side effects we are still experiencing to this very day. I pray that we turn to You and admit the sins that have caused many grievances in the world both for ourselves and for others. Such sins are leading to disruption in the climate which is causing storms and tsunamis that are causing the death of many people. Pollution and contamination, genetic modification, abortion among the many others. Amen. I pray for a global cleansing, my God and Father Amen.

I would like to end this meditation on the third chapter of the book of the prophet Jeremiah with the following prayer:-

Oh God my blessed Father, as You know we are great sinners, so much that Your Son had to pay such a big price for our redemption. However, even though many years pass we are still not learning from our previous mistakes. The world is sinking in its own sinful desires, alienated by consumerism, the advances in science and technology. When will we turn to You my God and Father? I pray that You place us in a situation where You will be our only hope! Wake the world up from this life of sin and alienation Amen. Thank You Jesus.
